Susan took swift action upon learning that Walden West Outdoor Science School would close for the 2027–28 school year - to protect access to science camp for all 5th graders. She informed parents and the district which helped to push forward alternative solutions. Her dedication extends across the community through meaningful support of Special Education needs, fostering inclusive friendship groups, and strengthening connections across multiple school sites.
In addition, Susan has made important contribution to uplift students and families across the community as a committed advocate through CFSCPTA, SEF fundraiser and more.

Recognized for her exceptional leadership and dedicated service, Stacy Yao has served as Superintendent of the Cupertino Union School District since June 2020. She has guided the district with integrity, vision, and an unwavering commitment to students, staff, and families. Throughout her tenure, she has advanced academic excellence, fostered a supportive and inclusive learning environment, and successfully led the district through both opportunities and challenges.
A defining achievement of her leadership is the development of the ‘Portrait of a Learner’ framework, which brings the Board’s vision for future-ready education to life - equipping students with the skills needed for success in college, careers, and beyond. This work has earned national recognition for the district and stands as a lasting legacy of her impact.
